BOATING COURSES

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

All of the courses offered by Flotilla 45 are presented in the
St. Michaels/Oxford/Easton area on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

BOATING SKILLS & SEAMANSHIP
The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Boating Skills and Seamanship (BS&S) course is a comprehensive course designed for both the novice and the intermediate boater.  Part One of the BS&S is the entry-level core course*, which consists of  the following topics:

Trailering Your Boat

Handling Your Boat.

Your "Highway" Signs

bullet

The Rules of the Nautical Road, and

Boating Safety

Students who have completed the core course may continue with the BS&S by taking Part Two.  These intermediate-level lessons cover the following topics:

Lines & Knots For Your Boat

Weather & Boating

bullet

Your Boat's Radio

*This course meets the Maryland certification requirements for persons born after July 1, 1972.  Some insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete this course.
